![]() Important Note: This is NOT a spoiler free write up. Tonight’s pick is Highway, a 2014 bollywood film by Imtiaz Ali and if I haven’t said it already, it is all-consuming. Or am I an addict to the realistic world of fiction where we are faced with things we have no courage to face in real life? Where we confront, acknowledge, manage, overcome and dare I say, live a little. Is this what good films are made of? The ability to consume your audience. I can feel my skin tingling from within, my heart wrenching a little and the knots coming undone. Every time there’s magnificence on screen the waves just get louder or the beat gets faster. I can feel it in my chest, these constant and tireless waves of soft thuds - dup, dup, dup, dup, dup. Instead, I am served a film (of my own conscious choice, mind you) that is all-consuming. My radiating laptop screen that hasn’t been cleaned in weeks, plays a film that is supposed to comfort me, strangle the noise in my head and lull me to sleep. ![]() Enveloped by the darkness of the night in my lightless bedroom, I watch yet another film.
